MANAGING NT ROAMING USER PROFILES V3R1M2

Reported problems using Roaming and Mandatory User Profiles
-----------------------------------------------------------

The following problems have been reported when using
Windows NT Roaming or Mandatory User Profiles and Client
Access for Windows 95/NT:

- User can't connect to an AS/400 system using AS/400
Connections applet. To resolve this problem, make sure that
the user profile has been properly preconfigured. See
sections below on preconfiguring roaming and mandatory
user profiles on the Windows NT Server.

- Updates to roaming user's profile are not saved when
logging off of Windows NT Workstation 4.0. To resolve this
problem a Windows NT Workstation 4.0 service pack must be
installed on the client PC. See section below for details
on Windows NT Workstation 4.0 service packs.

Preparing Preconfigured Roaming and Mandatory User Profiles
-----------------------------------------------------------

When Client Access for Windows 95/NT is installed on a
client PC, the install sets up the registry key Software
IBMClient AccessCurrent Version for the .default user and
all users defined in My ComputerHKEY_USERS. With a roaming
profile, this registry branch will not be set for the
roaming user unless 1) the administrator creates an empty
profile and the FIRST time the user signs on, they sign onto
a PC that has Client Access installed so that the
.default user registry branch is copied into the roaming
user profile, or 2) the administrator copies a user profile
that already has Client Access configured into it to the
roaming user profile on the Windows NT Server.

Additional information on configuring roaming user profiles
can be found in the NT Server administration documentation.

Common failures if profile is not preconfigured
-----------------------------------------------

One of the errors that will occur if a roaming user profile
is not configured properly is a CWBSY1000 error message
is reported when trying to start a connection using the
AS/400 Connections applet.

Applying Client Access Service Packs
------------------------------------

Client Access for Windows 95/NT service packs may make
updates to the .default user and to all users defined
in the registry key My ComputerHKEY_USERS. Administrators
need to ensure that roaming user profiles are updated
also. Administrators may choose to use group profiles
instead of individual user profiles to simplify the
application of service pack updates.

Co-requisite Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Service Packs
-----------------------------------------------------
Customers using roaming user profiles must apply Service
Pack 3(SP3) for Windows NT Workstation 4.0. SP3 can be
downloaded from the Microsoft web site. (Note that this
is a Microsoft service pack, not a Client Access service
pack.) The specific bug number is 73901.
not a Client Access service pack.) The specific bug
number is 73901. (This fix is planned to be in
NT Workstation 4.0 Service Pack 3.)
